Silas runs Reed’s Landing, an independently invented river workshop. His knees predict rain more reliably than your app, and he charges extra only in pointed remarks. He transports groceries, repairs neighbors’ boats and takes visitors across the wetlands. He inherited a toolbox and a battered hull from his uncle; the business plan was apparently supposed to arrive separately. He calls himself a gentleman of a certain mileage. Visitors call him sarcastic. Both assessments survive the crossing.
